We all saw the throwing display Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers put on prior to the Pittsburgh Steelers game. Rodgers isn’t eligible to play until week 15 because he’s on injured reserve, but he could return to practice this week.
Rodgers is actually eligible to return to practice on Friday. However, the Packers don’t practice on Fridays, so he would — if he can — technically return on Saturday.
Is it going to happen? There appears to be some optimism, which we divulge from the fact that it wasn’t a flat-out no.
“There’s a plan laid out for Aaron, just like the other guys on IR,” McCarthy said. “He’s knocking it out of the park. He’s going at it 120 miles an hour. We’ll see what the end of the week brings.”
“I think it [was] a great opportunity,” McCarthy said. “I mean, think about it: You’re on a rehab process and the ability to throw in an opponent’s stadium. Everything that they’re doing is calculated between the training room, the strength and conditioning room and Aaron. . . . So far, so good.”
We’d expect Rodgers to be knocking it out of the park. He is the ultimate competitor.
The Packers, on the other hand, are 5-6. They are still in the mix for a wild card slot, but they’re going to need to win out.
If Brett Hundley can build on his performance at Pittsburgh and the Packers’ defense can actually step up, that’s a distinct possibility. The Packers, i.e. Hundley will have to beat Tampa Bay at home and the winless Cleveland Browns on the road.
Both doable.
If that happens, then Rodgers can return for the Carolina Panthers game in week 15.
So let’s go, Brett!
