Chicago Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan is probably unknown to most Green Bay Packers fans, other than for the helmet-to-helmet hit he put on Davante Adams two weeks back.
Trevathan was initially suspended two games for the hit, which was obvious and blatant. That suspension was then reduced to one game upon appeal because the NFL still loves headhunters.
Total B.S., but nothing we can do about it.
Perhaps the suspension was reduced because Trevathan called Adams and apologized. Adams, who went to the hospital and was possibly still woozy, was good, according to Trevathan.
‘‘I told him I hope he’s good,’’ Trevathan said Wednesday. ‘‘Hope you know I wasn’t trying to harm him. I was just trying to make a play.’’
‘‘He was real cool,’’ Trevathan said. ‘‘He plays football. He plays it hard, and he plays it good. Obviously, he played last week. He did good. He handled it well. We were good.’’
That’s real good, I guess, Danny.
Adams returned the following week to face the Dallas Cowboys and had himself a nice game. He led the Packers in receiving and caught the winning touchdown. Of course, he had a little extra rest to recover. The Packers played the Bears on Thursday night.
Who knows if Adams would have played if it weren’t a long week.
But I suppose it doesn’t matter. Trevathan is sorry and Adams is good.
