Rotting away on the compendium of mediocrity that is Packers.com is the once-monthly column from Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy. In it, good old Ginger Gap Tooth answers questions from fans and summarizes whatever the hot topic for the month appears to be.
This month he talked about the overwhelming stench of failure emanating from 1265 Lombardi.
What did he have to say? We know you’re dying to know!
GGT put his usual PR spin on things because, although he’s a crappy PR guy, he sure does try hard at it.
Here’s the paragraph that gets to the point, along with our analysis thereof. And you already know what GGT’s point is — 2015 was NOT a failure and everything looks great!
Here we go…
As I look to the future, I feel very confident that we can continue to compete for a Super Bowl championship.
Okay, maybe, but maybe someone should try adding some players in a way other than the draft for once. We don’t care about competing for championships, you nitwit. We care about winning them.
Yes, we haven’t won a Super Bowl since 2010, but it is very hard to win games in the NFL, let alone to win Super Bowls.
Well, thanks for that insight, genius. The fact remains that you have the best player in the game and you seem to be the only who thinks it’s reasonable that he has only one title at this stage in his career.
We have given ourselves a chance in each of the past seven years.
Define chance. Making the playoffs? Is that what you consider “giving yourselves a chance?” I would argue that, despite making the playoffs those seasons, the 2012 and 2013 teams had no realistic chance of winning the Super Bowl because they simply weren’t talented enough. I’d probably argue the same thing about the 2015 squad.
We have great leadership and stability with Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy.
Stability, I will give you, but your definition of great leadership is pretty skewed. Ted Thompson literally provides zero leadership. A leader actually utters intelligible sentences from time to time. Mike McCarthy’s leadership is questionable, at best. The guy couldn’t even get Eddie Lacy to stop eating cheeseburgers last season.
We continue to have a solid core of players, led by arguably the best quarterback in the league, Aaron Rodgers.
What’s the point in having great players if you don’t win titles with them?
As an organization, we are sound financially, and can provide the team with all the resources it needs to be successful.
Ah, yes. Money. We know that’s all you really care about.
So, while the ending to the season was disappointing, and we didn’t achieve our ultimate goal, the season was not a failure, and we have much to build on for the future.
Boy, you’ve sold me! Where can I line up to kiss your ass for what a great job you’re doing?
