The Green Bay Packers were reportedly interested in free agent receiver Reggie Wayne if Jordy Nelson’s MRI showed an ACL tear and Wayne didn’t sign with the New England Patriots.
And if you know how the Packers operate, that’s way too many ifs.
Wayne, who took a physical with the New England Patriots on Monday, signed with the team later in the day.

If the Packers were going to have a shot at Wayne, they would have had to have acted quickly, considering the Patriots were already hot on his trail.
We knew the Packers weren’t going to do anything until they had Nelson’s test results in hand. Plus, general manager Ted Thompson makes a sloth look urgent in his approach.
So unless the Patriots failed Wayne on his physical or suddenly decided they didn’t want him, the Packers literally had no shot of signing him anyway.
It was a nice thought though.
Even at 36, Wayne had more than 700 yards receiving last season.
Now it would seem that the Packers will either go with what they have or wait for James Jones to be cut by the Giants. Our bet is on the former.
Then again, maybe this is a sign that the news on Nelson isn’t that bad…
