[tps_title]Tim Lewis[/tps_title]
1983, 11th overall
Tim Lewis should have been great. He was well on his way, despite all of the truly awful players that surrounded him on the Packers defense in the early-to-mid-80s. Unfortunately, Lewis suffered a career-ending neck injury three games into his fourth season. Lewis went down in a September game against the Chicago Bears after hitting receiver Willie Gault and lost feeling in his limbs. It was the second time in his career that Lewis experienced such an injury. Doctors told him he risked death or paralysis because of a congenitally small spinal-cord canal and Lewis retired two days later. In hindsight, Lewis never should have been playing football to begin with. The Packers obviously didn’t do their homework when they drafted him, but that was typical of the 1980s Packers.
