The Green Bay Packers are done with running back DuJuan Harris.
They’ve decided not to tender Harris, who is an exclusive rights free agent, and that’s like buying someone a one-way Greyhound ticket to Whogivesashit.
While we are certain that Chitko is heartbroken, the rest of us saw this coming.
Harris was a standout performer for the Packers down the stretch of the 2012 season. He then missed all of 2013 with a patellar tendon injury, only to return and find he was firmly (way) behind Eddie Lacy and James Starks on the depth chart.
Harris served as the Packers’ main kickoff returner in 2014 — a role he lost with a week left in the regular season. Harris was erratic as a returner, not knowing when to stay in the end zone and when to come out. He averaged just 20.7 yards per return, which was 20th out of the 21 guys who qualified.
Harris also found his rushing attempts nearly nonexistent in 2014. He carried just 16 times for 64 yards.
You could make the argument that, hey, give the guy some more carries and see what he can do. The reality is, the Packers don’t need a third running back that can’t contribute on special teams.
Harris will now be an unrestricted free agent.
