[tps_title]3. Desmond Howard[/tps_title]
We’re putting a returner at No. 3?! Well, yes, but we’re also putting a Super Bowl MVP at No. 3.
Ron Wolf signed Desmond Howard in 1996 and he did nothing short of turn in a historic season. Howard led the league in punt return yards (875), average (15.1) and touchdowns (3). His 875 yards on punt returns set an NFL single-season record.
Do we even have to talk about Super Bowl XXXI? Okay, we will. Happily.
Howard put up 90 punt return yards and 154 kickoff return yards with one touchdown, a Super Bowl record. His 244 all-purpose yards tied a record. Oh, and he slammed the door on the Patriots.
Would the Packers have been good in 1996 without Howard? Without a doubt. Would they have been as good? No way in hell.
