It looks like the Green Bay Packers aren’t going to have their starting outside linebackers back after the bye. Clay Matthews, who pulled a hamstring on Sunday, is expected to miss a couple weeks.
That means he probably won’t be ready when the Packers face the Detroit Lions in week 10 and possibly the New York Giants in week 11. The news on Nick Perry is worse. He’s seeking a second opinion on his injured knee, which means it isn’t healing.
In Perry’s absence, Erik Walden has played well, so his continued absence isn’t as much of a concern. Matthews’ on the other hand is.
The Packers would be forced to go with rookie Dezman Moses or Frank Zombo opposite Walden if neither Matthews or Perry are healthy. Teaming Perry with Walden would be much more palatable than teaming Moses with Walden, but that’s what the Packers are facing right now.
That is, unless Matthews proves to be a quick healer.
