Although there may have been a trade market for linebacker [intlink id=”139″ type=”category”]Nick Barnett[/intlink], it looks like the Green Bay Packers will release him.
Players can’t be released until Thursday, but Barnett left team facilities a short time after arriving this morning. He met with GM Ted Thompson, who informed him of the team’s decision.
Barnett tweeted the news.
Just met with Ted, Thanks for the great 8 years. Very blessed 2 be apart of such a great tradition and great fans.
Happy I was able to be here for the great xlv run… I will always keep a Special place in my heart for this team and city.
Rob Demovsky says the Packers could still try to trade Barnett before Thursday, but the possibility seems unlikely.
Barnett was scheduled to make $5.5 million in base salary, plus a $400,000 roster bonus and a $150,000 workout bonus. His release will help the Packers get under the salary cap.
