A new collective bargaining agreement could be coming soon, which means the godforsaken lockout, court cases and he said/she said bullshit that has been this NFL offseason might finally be over. Commissioner Roger Goodell presented the details of the proposed labor agreement to the owners on Tuesday. Although no vote was taken, the details make […]
The NFL Draft changes the face of every team’s roster and the Green Bay Packers are no exception, even though they’re the reigning Super Bowl champs. Several veterans will go into training camp to fight for a roster spot, while others will simply be let go during free agency. Here’s a look at which players […]
Despite initial reports to the contrary, the Green Bay Packers did tender potential restricted free agents James Jones and Brandon Jackson, last week.
Both Jones and Jackson have four years of service. Under the rules of the 2010 collective bargaining agreement, they would be restricted free agents. Under the rules of the previous agreement, they would be unrestricted, which is probably what they’ll be when a new labor deal is signed this year.
When the Green Bay Packers were handing out what’s largely expected to be meaningless tenders to guys who have little-to-no chance of being restricted free agents when a new labor deal is reached, they also snubbed a few guys. Receiver James Jones, running back Brandon Jackson and safety Atari Bigby, all of whom would […]
Green Bay Packers receiver James Jones is likely to have some suitors once free agency begins, providing the new collective bargaining agreement allows him to become a free agent as expected.
Jones’ name has already been mentioned in Cleveland, where the Browns have one of the worst receiving corps in the league.
We surmised that receiver James Jones would be at or near the top of the list for a new contract after the Green Bay Packers re-signed Desmond Bishop to a long-term deal, but that may not be the case. Word is, the Packers are debating whether Jones is worth a long-term investment. The reason isn’t […]
With Desmond Bishop receiving a contact extension, defensive end Cullen Jenkins should be the top priority for the Green Bay Packers. The Packers have several key players who are scheduled to be free agents under the current system, which is expected to be extended at some point. In addition to Jenkins, they include fullbacks John […]
The New York Jets will have their best defender, cornerback Darrelle Revis, back at full strength for their match-up with the Green Bay Packers, this Sunday — something that isn’t good news for the team’s passing attack. The Jets are coming off a bye and Revis says he’s 100 percent for the first time since […]
One last item on Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy’s lost challenge in the Monday night loss to the Chicago Bears before we move on. As you know, it was the wrong move to challenge, and we detailed the consequences yesterday. McCarthy threw the challenge flag on James Jones’ fumble — which was recovered by […]
The Green Bay Packers look like a poorly-coached football team again, but forget about the team-record penalties and the special teams breakdowns for a second. The Packers may have had a chance to win or tie the Chicago Bears on Monday night if it weren’t for what I would term two terrible coaching decisions by […]
Let’s be realistic. The better team did not win on Monday Night Football. Forget that the Green Bay Packers have no running game. Forget that the defense played their usual bend-but-don’t-break brand of football. The Green Bay Packers lost to the Chicago Bears 20-17 on Monday night because they exhibited the same stupid, aggravating play […]
The Green Bay Packers offense looks like a juggernaut going into the 2010 season. The possibilities of this season got me thinking about some of the greatest individual seasons by teammates in NFL history. The Packers had two 1,000-yard receivers, a 1,000-yard rusher and a 4,000-yard passer in 2009. Those numbers came courtesy of Greg […]
The weather man was wrong. It’s sunny and 85 degrees about an hour before practice. Quick observations: – There is a lot of talk here in Green Bay on the Brett Favre retirement. My thoughts — he stays retired until September 9th when, while mowing the lawn, he decides to drive the lawnmower to the […]
Jordy Nelson hasn’t exactly set the world on fire since the Green Bay Packers made him their first selection (second round) in the 2008 draft. He’s shown flashes of potential. He’s shown his blazing speed. He hasn’t developed into a top-of-the-line NFL receiver. That shouldn’t necessarily come as a surprise, considering Nelson is sitting behind […]
