The Jacksonville Jaguars, the NFL’s junior varsity team, went and drafted themselves a cornerback with the No. 5 overall pick in this year’s draft. That guy is Jalen Ramsey and he ain’t afraid of no ghost.
Apparently, he’s also not afraid of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Ramsey welcomed the idea of Rodgers coming his way on Sunday.
“I’m not scared,” Ramsey said. “Throw my way if you want to.”
That was pretty dumb. You know Rodgers has a text alert on his phone that lights up anytime anyone says anything that might remotely be considered a slight to the man. He’s sitting there right now laughing, reading these comments and devising ways to make Ramsey look like a total fool. This is the guy who carries a list around of pundits who said he couldn’t do one thing or another well entering the 2005 NFL Draft.
I’m exaggerating, of course, but only slightly. Aaron Rodgers never forgets.
Ramsey even pontificated about getting his first NFL interception against Rodgers, who would rather run around for 20 minutes and take a 50-yard loss on a sack than even think about trying to force one in.
“It’d mean a lot to me,” he said. “It’ll be my first NFL interception but that’s not really what I’m focused on right now. I’m just focused on doing what I can do for the team.”
Also dumb. But look, you’re a rookie. You’re going to be taken behind the woodshed on Sunday. And then you’ll learn.
Interestingly, this probably takes a load of pressure off a former Packer. Davon House will be manning the other cornerback position for the Jags on Sunday.
