At 260 pounds, Eddie Lacy is just as close to an NFL offensive lineman’s weight as he is to a typical running back’s weight.
Those two weights are in opposite directions, of course, but that apparently didn’t stop Lacy from playing at around 260 pounds in 2015.
That was the Journal-Sentinel’s estimate on how much Lacy weighed last season, which puts him about 25 pounds over his listed weight of 234.
The Packers listed Lacy at 234 pounds all season. But it’s a good bet Lacy was at least 25 pounds heavier than that. In fact, from the waist down, you couldn’t tell the difference between Lacy and 301-pound center Corey Linsley.
We’re not really sure how you carry fat in your legs and not in your gut as this seems to suggest, but okay.
The Packers have told Lacy to lose 30 pounds and if he does that, he’ll still be larger than most running backs.
By comparison, two of the NFL’s most bruising backs — Adrian Peterson and Marshawn Lynch — are listed at 220 and 215, respectively.
There’s always a guy like Jerome Bettis, whose fat ass played at around 250, but there aren’t many of those guys. Not in history and certainly not today.
What’s crazy is Lacy still averaged 4.1 yards per carry. That’s the same average he had as a rookie, when he gained 1,178 yards.
If the Packers would have just given him the ball more — as we said over and over — Lacy likely would have had a solid year anyway. He might have even run himself into shape, but clearly the coaching staff thought it more important to prove a point than to win football games.
