It appears the Green Bay Packers will be able to go right back to their scattershot approach to a running game on Sunday night. James Starks is out of the doghouse and coach Mike McCarthy says it’s right back to the two-back system.
“It’s a long year. You have games where things don’t go very well, but James will line up and play the way he normally does. We will run both Eddie and James,” McCarthy said.
“I think it’s clear what our philosophy is. Guys are pulled from the game immediately (when they fumble). But there’s other factors that go into it. … We all need to hold onto the football. We haven’t done a very good job of that.”
Starks saw his playing time limited in Arizona after he put the ball on the ground. That was his career-high fifth fumble and resulted in Starks getting only three carries in the desert.
Starks is also two yards away from setting a new career high in rushing yards. His previous high was 578 yards in 2011.
Despite all of their other offensive woes, their inconsistent running back play and total lack of commitment to the running game, the Packers are somehow still 10th overall in the league in rushing offense with 118.3 yards per game.
