Every indication thus far suggests that the Green Bay Packers offensive line will be bolstered by the return of starting right tackle Bryan Bulaga on Sunday.
Bulaga has been sidelined by a knee injury for three weeks, but he made it through the Packers’ padded practice on Thursday unscathed.
Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he’s optimistic that Bulaga will play this week, Friday morning.
“Bryan Bulaga is doing well,” McCarthy said. “He did everything that we had planned for.”
That should close this chapter on the struggles of Don Barclay.
Bulaga’s replacement got worked over by the 49ers last week, giving up three sacks when offensive coordinator Tom Clements chose not to provide him with any blocking support.
Although we wouldn’t call him great, Bulaga is a far superior pass blocker compared to Barclay.
His return is timely. This week’s opponent, the St. Louis Rams, possess a far superior defensive front compared to the 49ers.
