In case you weren’t aware, what’s going on here is that the Green Bay Packers are serving up Brett Favre on a platter to the tools who cover the team in advance of his Packers Hall of Fame induction on July 18.
So these clowns are now in the process of figuring out different ways to ask Favre the same questions.
And so you pretty much get the same information in every interview. You don’t even have to read any of them. We’ll run down what all the recent past and future Favre interviews will tell you.
- Both sides could have handled the divorce better
- Everything is cool now
- Brett was amazed at how quickly Lambeau Field sold out for his induction ceremony
- He and Aaron Rodgers get along fine
Seriously, that is the synopsis of all of the Favre interviews — even the ones that haven’t been published yet — from the local media guys. They’re the same, whether they work for ESPN, ESPN Milwaukee, the Journal-Sentinel, the Press-Gazette or Fox Sports.
We just saved you a lot of time. You’re welcome.
Now, on occasion, there will be a quote in one of these where Brett says something that’s of moderate interest. Like this right here.
Favre is talking about the hurt feelings and animosity caused by his exit from Green Bay.
“The great thing,” Favre told ESPN Milwaukee, “is that we’ve moved beyond that, and things are, in fact, way better than I could’ve ever dreamed with the fans and the organization. I think we all can agree on that, and we have to look no further than in an hour and a half, tickets were sold out for this hall of fame ceremony. I mean, my goodness, are you kidding me?
“I feel much better now because things are in a much better place, and I, like most people, probably questioned if we would ever get to that point. Not only have we gotten to that point, but we’ve gotten there times 100.”
What’s interesting about that?
Well, you actually have to dig into the quote a little bit.
Fans did indeed buy up tickets to watch Favre’s induction in Lambeau Field very quickly. And to watch it on a giant television, no less.
Clearly, there are a lot of Favre fans out there and a lot of people have forgiven Favre for his Minnesota Vikings tenure (which is conveniently never mentioned in these interviews).
But we know not ALL fans have forgiven Favre. Some still think he’s a selfish P.O.S.
Some may always feel that way.
However, in Brett’s eyes, those people just don’t exist. He’ll never acknowledge them or his Vikings career and why that came about. If he did, a lot of those people would probably soften their stance on Favre. Maybe even forgive him once and for all.
But that’s not how Brett rolls. In fact, he has on two occasions made it a point to define “real Packers fans.”
Real Packers fans, in Brett’s eyes, are the people who love Brett Favre or have forgiven Brett Favre.
Someone who just loves the team above all else and thinks Favre is a dick is not a real Packers fan.
And those people don’t exist. Because things are 100 times better. And look at how fast that stadium sold out.
And my head remains buried in the sand.
