Every Wednesday the Green Bay Packers have their first full-contact practice of the week and every Wednesday some guy shows up with a surprise injury.
This week, we got twin surprise injuries — outside linebacker Nick Perry sat out with a shoulder injury and inside linebacker Clay Matthews was limited with a groin injury.
Neither injury is considered serious, but Perry will be hard-pressed to practice this week.
“Limited work for both. Perry might not get more until Saturday,” coach Mike McCarthy said.
Perry has stepped in for Matthews as the starter at OLB opposite Julius Peppers since Matthews moved inside two games ago. If Perry were unable to go on Sunday, the Packers probably wouldn’t miss a beat because Mike Neal is the next option.
Meanwhile, Matthews is dealing with his second groin injury of the season. The groin is the new hamstring, apparently. But hey, not to worry!
“Speaking with him, he doesn’t have high concern. We’ll see how he feels tomorrow,” McCarthy said.
Also busy doing little to nothing on Wednesday were guards Josh Sitton and T.J. Lang, tight end Brandon Bostick and cornerback Jarrett Bush.
Those first three guys weren’t expected to practice due to lingering injuries. Bush, who also has a groin issue, was a surprise. It sounds as if he’s being held out as more of a precaution, however.
