Ready? CUTTY!
Former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher — or as we like to call him, Brolacher — was on some radio program on Wednesday questioning the eliteness of current Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.
The day before, Bears GM Phil Emery — who’s also the guy who gave old Cuts McGuts a gigantic new contract this past offseason — was publicly defending Cutty! as being elite.
As far as that matter goes, let’s just settle this once and for all. If a sizable percentage of people question whether you’re elite or not, then you’re clearly not elite. Only if your greatness is understood by the masses are you elite. Peyton, Brees, Brady, Rodgers.
End of list.
Cutler, Flacco, Eli, Rapelisburger… they have their moments, but are not elite.
Those guys need great players around them to win. The elite guys could play ball with you and I and still win.
And Cutler hasn’t even won a Super Bowl, so he doesn’t even belong on that second list. In other words, not even close to elite, Phil.
But anyway, it’s pretty rare for one of a team’s all-time greats to throw stones at a current player (unless they are attention whores like Joe Namath or Jim Brown).
So we’re somewhat surprised that Brolacher — who actually played several seasons with Cutty! — openly criticized him.
“Financially, he is one of the elite guys in the NFL … he just hasn’t produced like an elite quarterback,” Urlacher said on 87.7 FM The Game. “You look at the Bradys, the Mannings, the Rodgers, the Brees, those guys win every year, even with no one around them.
“Rodgers has no offensive line. He wins. Brady has no receivers. He wins.
“And you look at Jay. He’s got Brandon (Marshall), Alshon (Jeffery), Matt (Forte), this great offensive line, Martellus Bennett, and they can’t seem to put it together, for some reason. I’m not sure if that’s his fault, but for some reason they just can’t figure it out.”
Who knows whose fault it is and who cares?! As long as the Bears are a mess, we’re happy.
And let’s be honest. Whether it’s Cutler’s fault or not, there’s no one it’s more fun to blame it on.
Because… CUTTY!
