Green Bay Packers defensive end Datone Jones is still ailing.
Jones, who missed last week’s game with Miami because of a sprained ankle he suffered the previous Thursday against Minnesota, missed practice today.
This, after practicing in a limited fashion at the end of last week. What’s going on here?
Wait for it…
Wait for it…
The injury is worse than the Packers thought! Here’s Buffoon admitting as much.
“Datone is not recovering as fast as we thought. He’s not able to do much,” Mike McCarthy said today.
But why is the injury worse than the Packers thought? Well, because these are the Green Bay Packers, where the injury diagnosis is hardly ever correct the first time around.
If you’re thinking to yourself, I thought I remembered a situation like this already this season, you did. The same thing happened with receiver Jarrett Boykin, who has a groin injury. He’s now missed two games and Jones appears destined for that same fate.
From a lineup perspective, Jones’ absence isn’t that big of a deal. The Packers plugged Josh Boyd in last week and he was just fine.
I mean, we don’t recall Boyd making any plays, but then, we don’t recall Jones making any plays this season either. So take a guy, throw him out there and play some ball!
Cornerbacks Sam Shields and Tramon Williams were, not surprisingly, also nonparticipants in today’s practice.
