The Green Bay Packers will be facing a somewhat depleted Detroit Lions squad this weekend, with most of those injuries on the defensive side of the ball.
These guys have been ruled out for Sunday’s game: cornerback Cassius Vaughn, tackle LaAdrian Waddle and linebacker Travis Lewis. These guys have already been lost for the season: tackle Corey Hilliard and cornerbacks Bill Bentley and Nevin Lawson.
These guys are doubtful: safety James Ihedigbo and fullback Montell Owens.
Now, you’re probably like, “Who gives a shit? I’ve never even heard of any of those guys except for James Ihedigbo.”
Perhaps, but note how many cornerbacks are on the list in addition to the safety, Ihedigbo.
Vaughn was supposed to be the Leos’ nickel back this week. He was supposed to replace Lawson in that role. Lawson had replaced Bentley.
Now?
Now the Leos are going to be throwing some guy off the street — Danny Gorrer, signed just this week — or a safety who is returning from a hamstring injury — Don Carey — out there.
By the way, Gorrer has been signed and discarded by five different teams since 2009. The Lions are his sixth NFL team.
This should work out just fine…
If whoever is playing the nickel spot for the Lions lines up in the slot, expect a huge day from Randall Cobb. If that guy is covering the No. 3 receiver, then expect a nice afternoon from either Jarrett Boykin or Davante Adams, whichever one of them is the No. 3 receiver.
That is, providing Aaron Rodgers isn’t getting pounded into the ground by Derek Sherrod’s guy on every play.
