It sounds like the Green Bay Packers are prepared to use their temporary injured reserve designation on center J.C. Tretter.
That would take the injured center off the active roster and put him on injured reserve with the designation to return. Basically, the Packers could take him off IR at some point and add him back to the active roster. In the meantime, they’d have a roster spot for someone else.
The agent for #Packers C JC Tretter said he expects Tretter to be placed on the temporary IR list. Hasn't happened yet officially.

Tretter fractured his knee in the Packers’ third preseason game. No one seems to have a timetable for his return either.
Tretter has been said to be out “multiple weeks.” When coach Mike McCarthy was asked about Tretter’s availability earlier this week, he said there’s currently no plan for his return.
The fact that the Packers are discussing injured reserve, even the temporary variety, certainly means the time table isn’t a week or two. It’s probably more like eight to 10.
The Packers used the designation to return label on receiver Randall Cobb last year. He missed 10 games. In 2012, they used the designation on running back Cedric Benson after five games. He never returned.
It’s starting to look like this could be another lost season for Tretter, who missed most of 2013 with a broken ankle.
