Packers fans lined up for Family Night tickets

… fans in the NFL … according to Forbes. So yeah, we all know Green Bay Packers fans are the best. Most other sane people know that too. Forbes went and did some scientific shit, though.

And they found out what we already knew. But…

Here’s the criteria.

Our ranking is based on five criteria: hometown crowd reach (defined by Nielsen Scarborough as a percentage of the metropolitan area population that watched, attended, and/or listened to a game in the last year), 3 years worth of television ratings (per Nielsen), 3 years of stadium attendance based on capacity reached, 3 years worth of merchandise sales (per, and social media reach (a combination of Facebook likes and Twitter TWTR -0.07% followers based on the team’s metro area population).

The Packers were first in all of those categories except for TV audience rank, where they were second, and merchandise rank, where they were seventh.

I mean, obviously you need to start buying more Packers shit.

Here’s one of the most telling figures these clowns dug up.

According to market researchers Nielsen Scarborough, 84% of adults in Green Bay are Packers fans, identified as such having watched, attended, and/or listened to the team’s games this past year.

And then, of course, they go on to trash Green Bay with the tired-ass “there’s nothing to do there” refrain.

That may be true for city folk like myself or the broad who wrote that article, but I imagine there’s plenty to do for the people who live in Green Bay. Like, you know, killing shit with high-powered rifles and such.

Finally, I would like to note — in a total surprise — Minnesota Vikings fans didn’t make the list.

As a Packer fan in MN, not at all shocked. To be fair, though, Viking fans would be 1st in the category “fans who care more about other teams losing than their own team winning.”

This Forbes article is just silly. It is deeply flawed because several of the criteria (percentage of home market that watched a game and its metric on social media of facebook and twitter) are based on that the team’s home metro population. The smaller the population, the lesser percentage of transplants, not to mention smaller sample size.
One of the things that makes the Packers fan base so special is that it transcends local affiliation. I myself am originally from Seattle and now live in New York.Packer fans span not just the nation, but are also worldwide. Not to mention how emotionally invested so many millions of us are in this team.

I met a couple who traveled all the way from Japan just to come watch the Packers at Lambeau, and this was when their record was 5-10. Now that’s dedication.
