Well, here’s a familiar face. With their second fifth-round pick, the Green Bay Packers picked Wisconsin Badgers great Jared Abbrederis.
How many Abbrederis Packers jerseys are going to sell in Wisconsin tomorrow? A lot.
Yeah, Abbrederis is a wide receiver and the Packers sure as shit don’t need another one of those after picking Davante Adams in the second round yesterday. That being said, it’s a pretty damn big surprise that Abbrederis was sitting there at the final pick in the fifth round. Kind of had to take him if you’re looking at best available.
Abbrederis is not huge at 6-1, 195. He’s pretty fast (though not elite fast), having run a 4.5 40 at the combine. And if you watched any Wisconsin Badgers football last season, then you know this. He makes plays.
As pretty much the only weapon in Wisconsin’s passing attack, Abbrederis was consistently double teamed. And when the Bads had to throw, you knew it was going to Abbrederis. None of that mattered at all.
He’d still make the play. In 2013, Abbrederis had 78 catches for 1,081 and seven touchdowns. He also rushed for 119 yards.
We’re picturing Abbrederis as another Randall Cobb-type, which will make him a slot receiver. It will also mean he’ll probably rarely get on the field because you’re not going to take Cobb out.
Here’s what NFL.com has to say.
A former walk-on, Abbrederis went from afterthought to scholarship player to No. 1 receiver. While the blue-collar overachiever lacks exceptional athletic traits for the NFL, he’s a steady “X” receiver whose hands and smarts could enable him to work his way into a No. 3 or No. 4 receiver role.
You want these!
