Ha Ha Clinton-Dix

We know quite a few of you would like to see the Green Bay Packers get their hands on Alabama safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in the first round of this year’s draft. Well, it’s starting to look unlikely that he’ll be around when the Packers pick at No. 21.

Pre-draft visits aren’t always the most reliable indicator of where a player will go, but Clinton-Dix has already had three visits with teams who pick before the Packers.

Those teams are the Baltimore Ravens, Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans.

The Lions have the No. 10 pick, the Titans are at No. 11 and the Ravens are at No. 17. Although the Rams and Bears haven’t had Clinton-Dix in for a visit, they are rumored to be looking at safeties as well. Both of those teams also select before the Packers.

If this is the Packers’ guy, it’s beginning to look like they’ll have to trade up to get him.

If they don’t? Not the end of the world in our estimation.

Louisville’s Calvin Pryor is also a first-round talent and could be on the board when the Packers pick. There are a number of other safeties with second and third-round grades, including Washington State’s Deone Bucannon, who we particularly like.

Then there’s the guy already on the roster.

We know the Packers want to get Micah Hyde on the field more. With Casey Hayward returning from injury, Hyde’s opportunities at cornerback are likely going to decrease.

Moving him to safety is the logical way to get him the lineup. Hyde proved to be a playmaker at corner during his rookie season, but most scouts thought he was better suited to safety coming out of college.

If the Packers decide to plug that hole from within, they may not care where any of these safeties end up in the draft.
