Andrew Quarless

Tight end Andrew Quarless looks like he’s going to be in demand in free agency, maybe even more so than Jermichael Finley. So while the Green Bay Packers have made attempts to re-sign Quarless… good luck.

You can take this with a grain of salt because it comes from Quarless’ agent, but there are reportedly seven teams interested other than the Packers. We know one of them to be the New York Giants, where former Packers quarterbacks and tight ends coach Ben McAdoo is the new offensive coordinator.

The refrain about Quarless is the same in Green Bay and everywhere else. Teams think, given the chance, Quarless still has room to grow and could eventually turn into a dual threat as a blocker and receiver.

Quarless had his best season as a pro in 2013, catching 32 passes for 312 yards and two touchdowns. All were career highs. Those aren’t terribly impressive numbers, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, especially during free agency.

That meat market opens tomorrow and the Packers will quickly find out what the market for Quarless is going to be. Finley may be another story. He hasn’t been cleared for full contact yet after having neck surgery.
