Hey, if the Green Bay Packers had made the Super Bowl, they probably would have had Clay Matthews on the field!
Matthews had the pins removed from his thumb last Friday. He broke the thumb twice during the season, once against Detroit in week 4 and then again against Pittsburgh in week 16.
Both plays came on sacks, which Matthews had 7.5 of this season, the second-lowest total of his career.
“I need to get healthy,” Matthews told FOXSports.com on Tuesday. “Rehab my thumb and get it back to 100 percent so that way there is no setback starting next season.”
Matthews is working with a physical therapist to get the thumb back to normal and says he plans on getting back in the gym shortly.
After signing a $65 million contract extension last offseason, Matthews appeared in just 11 games in 2013. The Packers need to get a little better return on their investment than that.
