[tps_title]10. Jan Stenerud[/tps_title]
I have mostly good memories of Jan Stenerud and that’s why he leads off this list. Also, because he’s in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Stenerud is largely there because of the 13 seasons he kicked with the Kansas City Chiefs, but he came to Green Bay in 1980 and had four good seasons for the Pack. His best was 1981, when he hit 91 percent of his field goals to lead the league in that category.
Stenerud is also the only guy on this list who was traded to the Vikings. What!? What kind of idiot would trade a good player to a division rival!? I’ll tell you what kind of idiot. Forrest Gregg. That’s what kind of idiot.
Gregg replaced Bart Starr as coach in 1984 and, well, we don’t need this all-time great kicker anymore! Let’s send him to one of our biggest rivals!
Stenerud kicked two seasons for the Vikings. In 1984, he hit 87 percent of his field goals and made the Pro Bowl. Gregg acquired a seventh-round pick for Stenerud by the way.
Always the shrewd personnel man, that guy.
Who replaced Stenerud in Green Bay? The immortal Al Del Greco.
