James Jones

Good news. Bad news. The Green Bay Packers may have one of their injured receivers available when they face Cleveland this week. James Jones was diagnosed with a sprained PCL, but has a chance to play on Sunday.

Coach Mike McCarthy confirmed that, but also said Randall Cobb, who injured his knee, won’t play this week.

“James, it’s my understanding he has a chance [to play this week]. Randall does not have a chance. Randall will be out multiple weeks,” McCarthy said.

Now, sources are saying Cobb will miss six to eight weeks. He has a broken fibula.

With both Jones and Cobb down, the Packers were left with just Jordy Nelson and Jarrett Boykin at receiver on Sunday. They may be forced to add another guy to the roster this week.

“These are the discussions that have been going on all day,” McCarthy said.

On Sunday, the Packers were forced to go with more two tight end sets than they usually employ.

Whatever route they go, the Packers are in for a challenge this weekend. Cleveland has the seventh-rated defense in the NFL and they’re eighth against the pass, giving up an average of 214.3 yards per game.
