Packers Are Looking at Kickers
Those of you wondering why the Green Bay Packers haven’t booted kicker Mason Crosby the hell out of town yet, take note. The team is actually looking at some other kickers, something they refused to do when Crosby struggled mightily during the 2012 season.
Well, hallelujah!
Now, we’re not talking major NFL or college talent, but it at least looks like the Packers may finally be willing to bring in some competition for Crosby. On Monday, the team worked out both Michael Barnard and Eddy Carmona.
You probably haven’t heard of either guy and there’s good reason for that.
Barnhard has never played in an NFL game — not even preseason. His kicking experience consists of three college seasons (2006-08) at Division III Fairleigh Dickinson. He made just 16-of-27 field goals and missed five of 54 extra points. Since then, he’s been working out with a kicking guru in Arizona and taking tryouts wherever he can.
Carmona, on the other hand, probably has a bit better shot of actually making an NFL roster. He spent training camp with Oakland in 2012 and hit three of his four field goal attempts in the preseason, including a 56-yarder.
Big leg.
Carmona is also a small-school guy, but has a stronger resume than Barnhard.
He played three seasons at Central Arkansas and then transferred to Division-II Harding University. In 2011, Carmona hit 10-of-13 field goals, including a 62-yarder. In four years of college, Carmona was 48-of-67.
I think we can all agree, it’s time to get some competition for Crosby at the very least.

Good!
Thank God!
There are plenty more options!
We had the W-O-R-S-T kicker in the NFL last year. The worst. I’ll take Chris Jackie back, please.
Anybody!
Steven Hauschka, Phil Dawson, Jason Hanson…among others…
Lets draft one.

Of course we’d take Chris Jacke back. He is the best kicker we’ve had since Jan Stenerud.
No question the Packers will be bringing in some other kickers.
If Crosby struggles in preseason, he’s gone.
