Great perspective, Patrick.

Greg Jennings is an actually underrated star. He also is the epitome of Packer people. However, there are a couple reasons why he is likely to leave instead of Finley.

1) Cost – Finley will cost $8.7 mil next season, but likely less than in future seasons if the Packers extend him. Jennings is going to be making probably at least $2 million more a season than that.

2) Comparative value – Cobb, Nelson and Jones are capable receivers to fill in for Jennings. Finley is clearly better than any other TE on the Packers’ roster. The Packers love the 3 WR and 1 TE set. If you still have Jennings, then either Cobb, Nelson or Jones have to stand the sideline. Jones proved last season that he shouldn’t be sitting the sideline.

3) Skill set – Finley brings something to the table that isn’t replicated by anyone else on the roster. Jennings is superb, but Cobb has a similar skill set. And Finley is younger.

Useless point to debate since the whole point of the new CBA is to keep the salary cap around $120 million, whereabouts it will remain until at least 2016.

Hilariously, if you increased the cap by $40 mil, it would simply mean more money for the players. It actually wouldn’t mean MORE big money players on each team.

It wouldn’t enable the Packers, for instance, to sign more players, instead, it would just increase the value of the players they have.

Thank god you aren’t the Packers GM. By the way, adding another 30-40 million to the cap would essentially negate the purpose of the salary cap. Do you seriously think that the Packers can afford to spend another 40 million??? No, but some teams can and would. Sounds a lot like MLB’s situation to me, which absolutely sucks. The NFL’s salary cap is the sole reason than any NFL team has a shot to win each year if they are run properly.

Why can’t we cut Finley and retain Jennings? Is that crazy talk? Or just cut Finley. I don’t think Kuhn needs to go, I think Crosby is probably out though, which is unfortunate because this guy almost made the Pro Bowl his rookie year and then all of a sudden- poof, he sucked. I hate seeing Jennings go because he has the attitude and the aptitude to be one of the all-time greats. Either way TT is paid enough to figure this stuff out. I just drink beer and buy the hats and jerseys…

This is a business. We are done with the charity giving (Donald Driver). I would re-structure Wood but cut everyone else. I don’t care how good you might be–if you haven’t shown it, you’re gone. Draft a TE in the first or second to replace Jermichael. He’s not a matchup nightmare anymore, his play has regressed to the point that any TE in the first couple rounds go do as well or likely better. If you under perform, you’re gone–in baseball or basketball there’s no sweetheart feelings, trades and moves happen all of the time. Their is enough talent available each year in the draft to improve your squad and they need to sign an affordable FA D lineman. Also, the NFL needs to get it’s stick out of it’s ass and raise the cap to $150-160 Million.
