as much as i hate to say it, letting hawk go it a dumb shit move, as stated by iltarion, it only saves us $2.2 mil, which is obviously real cash, but not worth thinning an already weak position with major injuries…

as far as the cap, it doesn’t matter how much money a team is worth, you can only spend so much on players, which is the same for all teams. the money you spend on stadium upgrades and the like doesnt come from the money available to pay players. its easy to feel like all teams spend more than the pack based on the handful of large signing each offseason, but the reality is that it always comes at a cost for those teams and just because you don’t follow them as closely as the packers doesn’t mean they aren’t dealing with the same issues. this isn’t a unique situation in packerland.

How does an NFL franchise valued by Forbes at over $1B USD not ever seem to have enough money to pay it’s players? I could understand it if they spent the money on stars contracts, stadium upgrades etc. But they still haven’t paid their star players at salary levels matching their peers at the same positions and the stadium upgrades were largely paid for by past season’s earnings and a fake ownership stock sale…so where’s the damn money? Why are we so close to the cap???

Cutting AJ Hawk saves $2.2 million in cap room and leaves you with two starting ILBs who are both coming off major injury. Use your 1st round pick on an ILB, then MAYBE.

There is NO question Woodson will NOT be making $10 million in 2013. I would offer 3-4 million. I can’t see him doing any better than that.

Agreed on the 2010 talk. A lot of these guys have been playing spoiled. Somebody hits them back and they curl up, hide, and give up 40+ points. New blood and better tackling is needed. I don’t know how any cap conversation doesn’t start and end with A.J Hawk taking his rightful position next year as a high school football coach or car salesman and freeing up some of that money he has been stealing over the better part of the last decade.

As far as bringing attitude to the defense….Whatever formula the Packers defensive coordinator is using for “attitude” is clearly not working. I didnt see any attitude against the Giants last year, or against the 49ers….The playoffs are the games you have to “BRING IT”……Excuse me if i piss anyone off…..But to me, those games almost looked like they hardly cared…and at best, were severely out coached, and out muscled….I see 3 players on defense that play with attitude…Clay, C Hayward, and Woodson. I see Dom Capers up in his booth, who doesnt look like he has a pulse. I see Kevin Greene having attitude….It wouldnt hurt my feelings seeing Kevin Greene promoted to DC.

No matter the cost vs production? That doesn’t factor in?…wasn’t it TT who said: “It’s better to let a player go a few years too early, than a few years too late.” In hindsite, last year would have been a good time, same with Driver. No disrespect to either. Lets be honest, Driver caught 8 passes last season, they didnt keep him for production, they kept him out of respect.
