Donald Driver‘s Green Bay Packers career appears to be over, but that doesn’t necessarily mean his football career is. Fox 11 is reporting the Minnesota Vikings are interested in Driver.
This should not surprise you. The Minnesota Vikings have a long history of recycling Packers retreads.
There was a report last week that Driver was leaning toward retirement and he’s repeatedly said he wants to play his entire career in Green Bay. However, Driver is a free agent. If some team wants to throw a bunch of money at a 38-year-old receiver, he’d probably be tempted to take it.
Hell, Greg Jennings is also a free agent. The Vikings may as well sign him too and try to recreate the 2007 Packers. Maybe they can get Brett Favre back out of retirement! And where’s Ahman Green?
Seriously though, we’re guessing this is a ploy on the part of Team Driver. Driver has appeared on Fox 11’s “Inside the Huddle” for quite a while and this could be his agent giving them a “scoop” just to help drum up interest in his client.
Driver is certainly playing along.
“I think I could go to any team and be either their No. 1 or No. 2 guy and be solid for another three years,” Driver told FOX 11 two weeks ago. “The question is, do I want to see myself in another uniform? Will my family want to see that? If nobody wants to see it, at the end of the day, it will still be a tough decision because I’ve always said I only want to wear that green and gold and nothing else.”
Frankly, we wouldn’t doubt if Team Driver wasn’t trying to force the Packers’ hand again. The Packers couldn’t cut Driver after he won Dancing With the Stars or the fan base would have had a shit fit. Kind of like if Driver signed with the Vikings…
Something doesn’t smell quite right, but we’re going to bet the Packers have already moved on.
I’m sorry hoss, it’s time to hang up the cleats. Time to come to grips with that.
