Desmond Howard

Lest you forget, Jan. 26 is the day Desmond Howard and the Green Bay Packers trounced the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI.

The year was 1997 and the team was loaded, but the superstars didn’t rule the day on this particular afternoon. A return man from Michigan did.

It was the third quarter and the Patriots had just pulled to within six at 27-21, after a Curtis Martin touchdown run. On the ensuing kickoff, Howard snatched the momentum right back and then he did the robot to boot. The Patriots never recovered and the Packers went on to a 35-21 win.

Howard had 244 return yards in the game, earning him MVP honors.
