By interesting, I believe you mean "mind-boggling" and I agree. Dom Capers legitimately believed that the 4 rushers could both rush Kaepernick and contain him. He did nothing to help the four rushers until the 107 yards caused him to play more zone in the 2nd half.

We all know the Packers don't play zone defense very well, see the 49ers second score as proof, but as Capers preaches, you have to stop the run before you can stop the pass. Letting Woodson spy with Burnett in single safety deep would have made the most sense to me. But, apparently, Capers was so afraid of their vaunted WR core, which includes basically one go-to WR, that he had to drop 7 back on every passing down.

Thanks, hombre. I did indeed spend more time with this. It is the last one of the season, and the most important one.

Plus, losses have that train wreck quality to them- you don't like what you see but you can't look away.

Rebel, that indeed is pessimistic. Under MM, the Packers have been 8-8, 13-3, 6-10, 11-5, 10-6, 15-1 and 11-5. That's with 2 different QBs and 2 different defensive coordinators. He also led the team in a Super Bowl title 2 years ago. Logically, there is little reason to doubt he can't lead the team to another.

Great article. I love these Total View posts.

It's interesting how McCarthy said playing against Joe Webb would prepare them for Kaepernick. Because it seems to me like they were _completely_ unprepared.

Good job Shawn. I can only imagine you put more hours breaking down the tape on this game than regular season. This was your best analysis of the year....unfortunately it was on the Packers poorest showing.

I agree this team will be better next year. However that being said, and not to be a pessimist, but this team lacks something tangible. I dont know what it is, but the hole is definitely there. It may be a lack of toughness, poor chemistry in the locker room, lack of leadership, I dont know. It could be MM, coaches like him seem to eventually lose players (see Mike Holmgren). It could be the players that TT is picking up (poor character guys). Whatever it is, I fear we will be good, maybe even better than good, but that will never equal more than a playoff appearance and a one and done, two and done at most. Rodgers gets his next super bowl either after a coaching change in Green Bay at the end of his career, or on another team.
