The Green Bay Packers lost cornerback Davon House to a separated shoulder during the preseason and he was never really the same. There’s a good reason for that — he needed surgery.
Whoops!
House had the surgery on Wednesday, according to his wife.
House sustained the injury on Aug. 9. At the time, it looked like he’d be the Packers starting cornerback opposite Tramon Williams. Of course, he didn’t play again until Oct. 21 and by that time, Sam Shields had cemented himself as the Packers’ No. 2 corner and Casey Hayward had also moved ahead of House.
When he returned, House played with a shoulder harness and didn’t look like the same guy. He went on to play in nine games and record 26 tackles and a sack.
Oddly, the Packers went through the same thing the previous season with Williams. He hurt his shoulder early, but played all season with a harness anyway — badly, it should be pointed out. Williams didn’t look anything like the player he was in 2010 until this season (and then, only occasionally).
In hindsight, the Packers obviously should have shut House down for the season when the injury first occurred. This wouldn’t be the first injury situation they bungled this season though.
Now, the main question is whether House will be ready by training camp.
