They Didn’t Think Much of Lovie Smith in Illinois
As we’ve mentioned before, there were some Bears fans hoping the team would finish out of the playoffs so Smith would get fired. Of course, this attitude didn’t become prevalent until the Bears entered their annual late-season swoon.
Anyway, the Bears had some good years and even made it to the Super Bowl under Smith (first black coach to lose a Super Bowl!), but they made the playoffs just three times in his nine seasons. Further, Smith was 8-11 against the Green Bay Packers.
After winning seven of first of his 10 against Green Bay, the Bears dropped eight of the next nine.
So, while Smith’s 81-63 regular season record probably looks fine to most people, it isn’t fine for a place like Chicago. Three playoff appearances in nine seasons wouldn’t be fine in Green Bay either.
Still, this disparity of opinion is amusing.

Last year it was their GM’s fault–Fire Jerry! Was a sign some friends of ours took to a Bears game last season. This year, its Lovie’s fault.
Next year, they’ll have the ready-made excuse that its a building year!
The Bears STILL SUCK.

2 years of playing good football, with the eventual late season meltdown. It’s got to be beyond frustrating for Bears fans
Main problem: can’t beat The Packers.

Said his main focus was to beat the packers = fail = fired.

Lovey Smith was not a bad coach–the problem was the GM and personnell on the offense.

Gotta love the NFL. Lovie Smith gets fired but Rex Ryan stays on.

Agreed Packer Bob, Agreed. Lovie is a good head coach. This was really the fault of promoting an O Line coach in Mike Tice to Offensive Coordinator. I mean let’s compare Mike McCarthy offense to a Mike Tice offense…see any issues from the Bears side? Yeah, the wrong guy was once again pegged the scapegoat. Well, at least for their sake, they likely won’t retain the services of Mike Tice.
