It was ALWAYS complete horseshit that the referee ever threw a flag on that play in 1989. It wasn’t even close to over the line, and why would you throw the flag there on 4th and 14 unless it was CLEARLY over the line? Thank God for replay.

Ironically, I’m not sure replay officials today would have the balls to overturn that call.
