Bryan Bulaga Lost for Season
The Green Bay Packers have placed starting right tackle Bryan Bulaga on injured reserve, ending his season, according to Adam Schefter.
Bulaga suffered a hip injury against Arizona.
To take his roster spot, the Packers re-signed outside linebacker Vic So’oto. So’oto made the Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2011, but was cut this past September and signed by the Raiders before getting released again.
Bringing So’oto back makes sense, since he knows the system and the Packers are light at outside linebacker after putting Nick Perrry on IR. Clay Matthews also has a hamstring injury, which may keep him out this week.
As for as Bulaga, we talked about how the Packers will replace him last week.

Wow…this sucks. Our best run-blocking O-lineman. And our own former 1st round draft choice.
An intrical member on our Superbowl run 2 years ago. A crushing blow to our team. We cannot afford another loss on the O-line.

Hoefully, Derek Sherrod can be healthy for the stretch-run

Lang and EDS can hold down the fort. It’s not the end of the world, but if anyone else goes down then we’re screwed. Just keep #12 upright, and things will be fine. This team has shown the ability to overcome injuries before – it’s time to do that again. I’d rather have our backs against the wall like 2010 than trying to go undefeated like last year.

I think it is obvious at this point that the MM/TT philosophy errs on the side of caution, which would partially explain the heavy traffic on our IR every year. The word is that Bulaga was working out and wanted to come back, but there were some different opinions as far as the long term medical outlook. So, IR, here you go.
This is a blow, but Lang is a natural tackle.
It would be a huge boon if Sherrod could come back by December and give us some depth there. Regardless, I wouldn’t say the roof is collapsing if another O-lineman goes down, but it would make things “interesting.” Don’t know if you caught Philly’s O-line with 4 back ups last night, but they looked pretty good.
The Packers won the Super Bowl in 1996 with a back up playing left tackle- Bruce Wilkerson. So, it can be done.

Im glad they brought back So’oto. They never gave him a chance, I think he can be a big time 3-4 Linebacker/DE

I agree. I think So’oto can fill the spot Perry held as the power pass rusher of the team. No one else on the roster at OLB has the ability to walk OTs back into the opposing QB. Look at Clay’s numbers – he was dramatically better when Perry was opposite of him and collapsing the pocket so the QB had less ways to escape from Clay. I think So’oto can thrive in that role.

Troy Aikman said that it looked like the injury that ended Herschel Walker’s career. Not that I generally put a lot of stake into whatever Troy says, but….
The real question becomes what about Sherrod?

He was talking about Bo Jackson. Bo Jackson shattered part of the his socket.
Bulaga dislocated his hip. It will heal on his own, and he won’t even need surgery. It was probably borderline as far as whether he could be effective again before the playoffs started. So, the Packers organization decided to shelve him for the year.
