Of course those fingers weren’t enough to constitute possession when Jennings has 2 hands and a chest possessing the ball. Why would Tate knock the ball to the ground?

Either way, I think the only argument the crazies have is if the play continues after the refs start signaling opposite signals. Even then, the Calvin Johnson rule pretty much negates any argument that golden tate has the ball, as his possession came after half the fans were already in the parking lot. His hand touching the ball and his other hand grabbing Jennings while he then pulls his “controlling” hand off during the fall is all the proof the refs should need.

I do not dispute Jennings caught the ball first. That has never been in dispute. Neither is the flagrant & obvious PI. You make an interesting point though crossing the plane & losing the ball is a different scenario (I concede it still may apply). I use the Tyree catch as a scenario because the catch is not made until clear possession makes it so or the ball touches the ground negating a catch. Here’s where I’m at: interpreting catch vs. simultaneous catch. Jennings needs to possess that ball all the way to the ground for it to be a catch, agreed? In this case he does that. If Tate simultaneously catches the ball as Jennings does, whether Jennings is “down” or where his feet are mean nothing, because he continues possession to the ground. If he loses possession at any point (the Calvin Johnson rule you allude to) is it a catch? What would be your ruling if Tate had knocked the ball to the ground? Interception or incomplete pass? It comes down to that & whether those fingers are enough to constitute the simultaneous possession rule. As a side note: regardless of the call, it not being overturned was correct in that there is not incontrovertible evidence that it is wrong.

I think most Packer fans will probably be happy this happened in the long run, if it turns out to be the motivation they needed. Seattle is 12 to 1 right now to take the NFC and Green Bay is 5.5 to 1, even with a completely fraudulent tiebreaker over them.

Interesting question. One of the more important questions is when exactly does the play end? What you’re hinting at is something along the lines of the Calvin Johnson rule. I don’t think that applies at all considering Jennings had the ball up until the refs starting waving their hands in opposing signals. Tate grabbing the ball after that and claiming a catch is the equivalent of a down RB in the endzone having the ball swatted out of his hands and claiming it was then a fumble or incompletion.

Let’s focus on the meat & forget the cheese-covered broccoli! I know you guys favor soccer as the quintessential sport but were talking American football here & you appear to have some working knowledge (a skewed perspective maybe but still, some working knowledge) of our sport. Would you please explain to me how Jennings allowed Tate to gain complete possession of the ball? See I conclude (I do allow I might be relying on simple association) that since Tate came up with sole possession of the ball (after the pile/fight was broke up), Jennings “control” of the ball is in question.
