Anthony Hargrove

The Green Bay Packers gave their big offseason free agent acquisition, defensive end Anthony Hargrove, his walking papers today.

Hargrove didn’t make an impact of any kind during training camp or the preseason and is suspended for the first eight games of the season for his role in bountygate.

When you add it up, there wasn’t much reason for the Packers to keep him around. Hargrove was given a veteran minimum contract with no signing bonus when the team signed him earlier this year, so they don’t lose anything financially either.

The Packers have to trim their roster from 90 to 75 by Monday, so there will be more transactions coming.

As for Hargrove, he’ll probably catch on somewhere when his suspension is over, but he doesn’t appear to be the same player he was two or three years ago.
