Morgan Burnett

Third-year safety Morgan Burnett is destined for greatness. Just ask the Green Bay Packers.

Both coaches and teammates are saying glorious things about Burnett, who had 107 tackles, two forced fumbles and three interceptions in 2011, his first full season as a starter.

Here’s coach Mike McCarthy saying Burnett is ready for his national close-up.

“I think he’ll definitely be somebody that they’ll be talking about throughout the league,” coach Mike McCarthy said Tuesday after Burnett had a particularly active practice. “I think he’s ready for that type of season.”

Here’s teammate Tramon Williams saying Burnett will soon be among the league’s elite.

“I believe personally that he has a rare skill set, and I believe he’ll be a Pro Bowler, a multiple Pro Bowler, one day. Might be this year. You never know. The guy has that type of skill set and that type of energy.”

Burnett has been impressive so far in training camp and it would stand to reason he’d have the nuances of the NFL game down in his third season. Burnett’s development was somewhat hindered because he tore his ACL his rookie season and missed 12 games and because there was no offseason program last year.

Now, the sky appears to be the limit, which is good news since Nick Collins won’t be around to cover up any mistakes.
