Packers Re-sign Walden
In a move that could be considered a minor surprise, the Green Bay Packers re-signed outside linebacker Erik Walden.
Terms of the deal haven’t been released, although there is speculation it’s for one year and at or near the veteran minimum. There was little-to-no interest in Walden by the Packers or anyone else during free agency and it’s easy to see why.
After starting strong, Walden’s play regressed after a domestic incident with his girlfriend in November. Whether that affected his play or a sickness that caused him to lose 15 pounds is debatable, but Walden lost his starting job to Brad Jones at the end of the season. He played sparingly in week 17 and the Packers’ playoff loss to the Giants.
Walden, who finished with 86 tackles and three sacks in 2011, could still be suspended by the NFL for the domestic incident even though he pleaded no contest.
He’ll join an underwhelming group of players that includes Jones and Frank Zombo competing for a job opposite Clay Matthews. The Packers will probably draft another outside linebacker as well.

I am surprised.
I remember in the final game against the Lions, the Packers brought Walden in for a play. The Lions immediately ran an end around to Walden’s side. Walden got caught looking inside, AGAIN, and the play sprung for over ten yards. Walden was immediately benched again.
I guess if he is near league minimum, then why not?

Walden just needs to re-focus, get all the offseason workouts and I think he will be back in the starting slot making plays in 2012.

They saw the pictures of Cutler’s apartment and figured they’d better sign someone who knows how to straighten a bitch out.

Vic So’oto is the future OLB, him and clay will make an insane combo

If Walden can bring his big boy panties this year and focus on hitting opposing RBs and QBs instead of women, then he’s worth bringing back. With that said, I feel we will upgrade at the position–either draft pick or maybe So’otto improves.

This is a big nothing. signing bonus, if any, is probably minimal. They can cut him any time they want with no ramifications.
