Woodson is "ludicrous?" No. AJ Hawk sticks out like a sore thumb as the story intimates. Look at that cap hit for such mediocre production. And, worst of all Thompson made sure Hawk would be around for years with the specter of dead cap $$$.

I feel ill now. It's no secret, that Woodson's skills are not what they used to be. I knew about his salary, but i didn't know about his 4 million dollar bonus money. If i got this right, were paying 10.5 million to a guy with diminishing skills? Thats starting QB money, thats rediculous. There is talk about moving Woodson to safety, thats also ludicrous. Woodson is NOT a hitter. Sure he can tackle at the line of scrimmage, but thats a far cry from tackling someone going full speed. Cornerbacks, are rarely good tacklers. I love Woodson..But 10.5 million...Gimmie a break.

Thompson is actually one of the most active traders in the league. It's just that he does a lot of little trades, typically moving a few picks back and forth in the later rounds. Those trades rarely get press coverage.

Nicely done Shawn.

I agree with Doug that Thompson may have to set aside the idea of taking the best player available and draft for where we need someone.

Bob McGinn wrote a story today that stated he thinks Wells is gone. I like Shawn's strategy better and think if we let him walk we will really regret it. Wells won't be jerked around and the Packers won't overpay. Who knows where it goes?

As Teddy KGB said, "Pay him. Pay that man his money."

Great recap. Would love to see them restructure Driver to keep him around, as I think his value goes far beyond what he does on the field. I've heard rumors that Clifton is done anyway, so remove that. I love Finley's upside, but he's a bit of a head case and Crabtree and Quarless are serviceable (made much better than they probably are by AA Rod).

Definitely can't gut the defense, and I'm hoping that's the real focus of the draft. Thompson doesn't seem to do much by way of trades, so at some point it doesn't make sense to take the best player available if you're not going to move them to fill a need.
