Tom Clements

It took awhile, but the Green Bay Packers finally did what we knew they’d do all along — name quarterbacks coach Tom Clements offensive coordinator. Clements replaces Joe Philbin, who was hired to coach the Miami Dolphins.

Clements has been the Packers quarterbacks coach for the past six seasons. He was the Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator in 2004-05. He also interviewed for the head coaching jobs at Penn State and with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“I’m happy that it’s happened and I’m happy for Joe (Philbin) that he’s a head coach, and I’m glad I was able to step into his place,” Clements said. “I’ve been a coordinator before, only for a few years. I’ve always wanted to get back to doing that and I’m thankful that it’s here in Green Bay.”

The Packers next order of business will be to replace Clements. Tight ends coach Bob McAdoo appears to be a candidate for the job.

Coach Mike McCarthy has said the Packers will look to promote from within first, so don’t be surprised if the team doesn’t bring in an outsider.
