Chicago Bears Are Back To Their Thuggish Ways
It’s been a while since someone on the Chicago Bears got arrested. So much so, we had almost forgotten what a bunch of thugs they are, especially when the Minnesota Vikings lead the league in arrests and the Detroit Lions act like a bunch of dumb thugs on the field.
Well, the Bears are back at it! Receiver Sam Hurd was arrested Wednesday on federal drug charges. He allegedly is responsible for dealing large amounts of coke and weed in Chicago (and we all know those people need more drugs).
Hurd allegedly attempted to purchase cocaine and marijuana from a supplier in North Texas, the location of where the case will be adjudicated. He was arrested by undercover agents at a Chicago steakhouse Wednesday night and was due to appear in federal court in Chicago Thursday to face a charge that he did “possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more” of cocaine.
The feds have apparently been on Hurd’s trail for a while. They began investigating him when he was a member of the Dallas Cowboys — Hurd signed with the Bears this offseason.
He was meeting with an undercover agent last night, where he was allegedly negotiating a deal to buy five to 10 kilos of coke and 1,000 pounds of weed per week to distribute in Chicago. Hurd reportedly agreed to pay $25,000 per kilo and $450 per pound.
Here’s the part I love. He told the agent he played for the Bears.
After they agreed on a price, the undercover agent gave Hurd a kilogram of cocaine, according to the complaint. Hurd told the agent that he plays for the Bears and would get out of practice at 5:30 p.m., at which time he would make arrangements to pay for the drugs. According to the complaint, Hurd then took the drugs and got in his car. He was promptly arrested.
I guess he didn’t make it to practice. Smooth move, Ex-Lax.
Not that the Bears will miss him. Hurd only has eight catches for 109 yards on the season.
The distraction can’t be good for the team’s floundering playoff hopes, though. The Bears travel to Seattle to play the Seahawks this week.
