Jermichael Finley Still Has Some Work To Do
Green Bay Packers tight end [intlink id="209" type="category"]Jermichael Finley[/intlink] caught three touchdowns against Chicago last Sunday, but he didn’t even know what the hell he was doing on the second one.
His second score was from seven yards out, but quarterback [intlink id="25" type="category"]Aaron Rodgers[/intlink] said Finley thought the play was supposed to be a run.
At the snap, Finley began blocking Bears linebacker Lance Briggs, who was trying to cover him on the play. Rodgers ended up rolling right and that’s when Finley realized his error and ran to the end zone, where he scooped up a low throw for a 14-point Packers’ lead.
It’s a testament to both Finley’s ability and the fact he hasn’t reached his full potential yet.
“He makes incredible plays in the game,” Rodgers said.
“But at the same time, there are still some mental errors he makes from time to time. He’s able to get through those because of his incredible athletic ability and his great reactions to make up for the wrong thing. ‘J-Mike’ just needs more reps. … He has incredible talent and I think he would say he had a couple mental errors in the game.”
It’s scary to think of what Finley might be able to do if he cleans up the mental part of his game.
Certainly, he’s come a long way since his rookie season when he publicly blamed Rodgers for mistakes he made on the field. Obviously there’s still a little work to be done, though.
