Supposedly, the Green Bay Packers somehow got in touch with players and told them to show up at team facilities Saturday, but the organization denied any contact took place.

Technically, even though a new collective bargaining agreement is close, the NFL’s lockout is still in place, which means contact with players is still a no-no.

It looks like players were told by someone to report for meetings on Saturday. It’s possible the word came through the NFLPA via the team’s player rep.

[A league] official did concede that veteran players are allowed to communicate to teammates that they should be prepared to report Saturday on a voluntary basis for medical exams and informal meetings once the NFL gives the green light under contingency plans known as the “Transition Rules.”

Odd to say the least.

More importantly, the NFL has no plans to investigate the Packers for a potential infraction and doesn’t anticipate significant sanctions if the team finds wrongdoing via an internal review.
