Fox Sports Ranks Packers No. 1 NFL Organization
Fox Sports’ Adam Schein compiled his third annual NFL organization rankings and not surprisingly, the Green Bay Packers came out on top, dethroning two-time winner, the New England Patriots.
What does this mean? Probably not much, other than the Packers rate highly in several subjective categories.
While the categories used to determine the rankings — owner, quarterback, head coach, front office, coaching staff and intangibles, which include facilities, fan support and public relations – are laid out, how each rating is determined is not explained.
A panel of experts at Fox Sports? People from around the league? Schein by himself?
With that bit of disclosure out of the way, here’s what Schein said about the Packers.
The Super Bowl was vindication for general manager Ted Thompson. But truth be told, he never needed it. Thompson has the golden touch in assembling a young championship core with staying power. Mike McCarthy is a great coach. QB Aaron Rodgers took that major step up in class. CEO Mark Murphy is sharp and has the perfect demeanor and experience for this job. The Packers fans are amazing.
The Packers finished with 56 points, a half point better than the [intlink id="234" type="category"]New Orleans Saints[/intlink].
The organization received perfect marks in quarterback and intangibles, a 9.5 rating in front office, a 9 rating in owner and coaching staff and an 8.5 in coach.
The next-highest [intlink id="527" type="category"]NFC North[/intlink] team was the [intlink id="13" type="category"]Chicago Bears[/intlink] at No. 14. The Bears received 37 points, with a below-average 4.5 in coaching staff.
The [intlink id="126" type="category"]Detroit Lions[/intlink] came in at No. 23 with 28 points. The Lions received below-average marks in owner, quarterback and front office.
And, drumroll please… bringing up the rear — the [intlink id="35" type="category"]Minnesota Vikings[/intlink] at No. 25 with 27 points. The Vikings received a brutal 2 rating at quarterback and a 4 rating at coach.
The [intlink id="509" type="category"]Buffalo Bills[/intlink] finished dead last in the rankings with 14.5 points.
