‘Lombardi’ Gets Retired

Although there’s been a buzz in NFL circles, the Broadway play about former Green Bay Packers coach [intlink id="465" type="category"]Vince Lombardi[/intlink], appropriately titled “Lombardi,” will end its run prematurely.
It will close on May 22 after 274 performances.
The play was originally scheduled to finish its run on June 19. It received one Tony nomination — noms were announced Tuesday — for best featured actress. Judith Light, who played Marie Lombardi, got the nod.
It’s unclear if “Lombardi,” which starred Dan Lauria as the legendary Packers coach, was actually successful. It received mixed reviews from critics and there’s speculation it didn’t earn back the money it cost to produce, but few Broadway plays do.
On the positive side, it was the only new drama to make it out of the fall season alive.
Some of the show’s producers are now working on another sports-related play entitled “Magic/Bird,” which will focus on the lives of Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.

Too bad…I was hoping to go see it before it ended! I’m sure any Packers fan that went to see it loved it!
