Matthews Has Shin Injury
Although Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews said injuries weren’t slowing him down earlier this week, that may not be the case.
On Friday, it was revealed Matthews has a shin injury that is getting progressively worse. The injury won’t heal until the offseason, when Matthews will be able to rest it.
“It’s constant, I’ll say that,” Matthews said Friday. “I would say it’s constant throbbing. Sharp pain. Tightness. The only thing that will heal it is rest.”
Whether this is affecting Matthews’ play is debatable, but it certainly can’t be helping.
Matthews’ sacks and pressures have both dropped over the past four games. In addition, he’s missed a substantial amount of practice time — he hasn’t participated in a full practice since Oct. 29 — which has affected his timing, according to defensive coordinator Dom Capers.
Unfortunately, there isn’t much for the Packers to do at this point.
Clay Matthews at 75 percent is still better than most other linebackers at 100 percent.
