Fresh off setting a career high in sacks after a two-sack performance against San Francisco, Green Bay Packers defensive end Cullen Jenkins got some bad news — the calf strain he suffered on Sunday will keep him out of this week’s game with Detroit and possibly longer.
“It may be a couple weeks. When you’re dealing with a calf strain, just meeting with Dr. McKenzie, he feels better today than he did with the initial diagnosis last night, after going through the testing and so forth. But I don’t see Cullen making it this week,” coach Mike McCarthy said.
Jenkins broke his hand in week one and played with a cast until two weeks ago. He’s also missed time earlier this year with a calf strain.
In Jenkins’ absence, either rookie C.J. Wilson or Jarius Wynn will start. Wynn hasn’t been on the active roster the last three weeks, but McCarthy suggested he and Wilson will get an equal opportunity to grab the starting spot, this week.
Wilson has 18 tackles and a sack on the season. He filled in admirably for Jenkins when Jenkins first hurt his calf.
Jenkins currently has 18 tackles and seven sacks.
